Gurnee purchases its municipal drinking water from the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency, commonly called CLCJAWA. Lake Michigan is CLCJAWA’s sole source.
The water is treated at the Paul M. Neal Water Treatment Facility in Lake Bluff. The treatment process described in the 2025 report includes ozone, coagulation, activated-carbon and fine-sand filtration, ultraviolet disinfection, chlorine, fluoride, and phosphate for corrosion control.

The 2025 report states that CLCJAWA and the Village of Gurnee maintained compliance with all applicable state and federal drinking-water regulations. It also states that no violations occurred and all regulated contaminants remained within allowable limits during the reporting year.
The report identifies the listed microbial, inorganic, organic, disinfectant, disinfection-by-product, fluoride, sodium, lead, and copper results as being in compliance.
For lead, the most recent results shown were from 2024. The 90th-percentile result was 2.3 parts per billion, below the 15-parts-per-billion action level. No sites exceeded the action level, and individual results ranged from below 1 to 3.4 parts per billion.
For copper, the 90th-percentile result was 0.13 parts per million, below the 1.3-parts-per-million action level. No sites exceeded that action level.
The report also states that no known lead or galvanized service lines are present in the Village of Gurnee, based on its service-line material inventory.
CLCJAWA uses chlorine to protect water as it travels through the distribution system. The 2025 report lists a chlorine range of 0.8 to 1 part per million and a highest reported level of 0.9 parts per million. The maximum residual disinfectant level was 4 parts per million, and the result was in compliance.
Because chlorine is used in treatment and distribution, some customers may notice a disinfectant-related taste or odor. The report does not state how often this occurs or describe its intensity.
